STP Instrumentation
A sewage treatment plant in an apartment complex, hotel, hospital or IT park has to meet discharge norms every day with minimal operator attention. The right instruments make that possible and cut power bills at the same time.
Instruments for each stage of an STP
| Stage | What to measure | Recommended instrument |
|---|---|---|
| Raw sewage inlet | Flow, sump level | Electromagnetic flow meter, ultrasonic level transmitter |
| Aeration / MBBR / SBR | Dissolved oxygen | DO controller DO101 |
| MBR | Suction vacuum (TMP) | Vacuum pressure transmitter |
| Disinfection | Residual chlorine, ORP | Chlorine controller CL101, ozonator |
| Treated water outlet | pH, TSS, BOD, COD, flow | Online monitoring system, pH controller PH101 |
Save energy on aeration
Aeration blowers are usually the biggest electricity load in an STP. Controlling blowers from a dissolved oxygen reading, instead of running them continuously, keeps DO in the right band and reduces running hours.
Frequently asked questions
Which flow meter is best for an STP?
An electromagnetic flow meter with rubber (CR) lining and 316L electrodes is the standard choice. It has no moving parts, no pressure loss and handles raw sewage without clogging. Where the pipe cannot be cut, a clamp-on ultrasonic flow meter is an alternative.
Do I need online monitoring for my STP?
This depends on your plant capacity, location and the conditions in your consent to operate. Check with your State Pollution Control Board; if it is required, our online monitoring system connects directly to CPCB/SPCB servers.
