In a membrane bioreactor (MBR), permeate is drawn through the membranes under vacuum. Rising suction vacuum is the first sign of membrane fouling. A vacuum pressure transmitter on each suction header lets the PLC trigger relaxation, backwash or chemical cleaning at the right time and protects the membranes.
